Funfetti Popping Bath Bomb Project
These Funfetti Popping Bath Bombs fill the tub with a fun fizzing reaction thanks to Cocoa Butter Popping Crystals. They're a mixture of sugar, carbon dioxide, and cocoa butter. When introduced to warm water, they pop, snap, and fizz. They're the perfect addition to these colorful bath bombs - kids will love them!
We also added rainbow sprinkles for color. It does introduce a small amount of sugar and color to the water, but we found it was minimal. The addition of polysorbate 80 reduces any ring of color around the tub, extends the fizzing reaction, and helps the cocoa butter disperse in the water. Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil adds a sweet scent.

What You Need:
Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- Citric Acid - 1 lb
- Polysorbate 80 - 1 oz
- Witch Hazel - 1 lb
- Sodium Bicarbonate - 1 lb
- Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil - 1.75 oz
- DISCONTINUED - Cocoa Butter Popping Crystals - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
- Disk Mold and Package, Plastic - 10 molds
Instructions
You will need:
- About 8 Disk Bath Bomb Molds
- 16 oz. Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
- 8 oz. Citric Acid
- 2 oz. Cocoa Butter Popping Crystals
- 0.5 oz. Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil
- 0.3 oz. Polysorbate 80
- About 0.3-0.5 oz. Rainbow Sprinkles (depending on personal preference)
- Witch Hazel in a Spray Bottle
Follow these steps:
1
In a large bowl, mix together 16 ounces of baking soda and 8 ounces of citric acid. To get rid of clumps, you can push the powders through a sifter or break them up with your fingers. Thoroughly stir the ingredients together.
2
Mix in 2 ounces of Cocoa Butter Popping Crystals.
3
Add 0.5 ounces of Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil and 0.3 ounces of polysorbate 80. Mix thoroughly until there are no large clumps.
4
Test the consistency of the bath bomb mixture. It should feel like wet sand and hold its shape when squeezed. If it’s too dry, use one hand to spritz with witch hazel and one to mix. Continue spritzing until the mixture holds its shape.
5
Gently mix in 0.3 ounces of rainbow sprinkles. You can add more from there if you like.
6
Place a pinch of rainbow sprinkles into each disk mold. Firmly press the bath bomb mixture in until full and firmly packed.
7
Allow to fully dry and harden for at least several hours or up to overnight.
8
When you're ready to use, place the bath bomb into a hot tub and enjoy!
