Made with luxe ingredients like cocoa butter and rosehip seed oil, this rich cream intensely moisturizes.

This recipe creates a thick lotion that absorbs quickly and leaves skin feeling soft. We love applying this cream before bed for a calming effect. It's scented with Wild Heather and Thyme Fragrance Oil, which smells like a luxury spa with notes of lavender, sage, heather, and thyme. A touch of Queen's Purple Mica creates a soft lavender hue.

If you've never made lotion before, it's surprisingly easy! All you have to do is combine water, oils, and additives. Learn more about creating lotion from scratch here. EQUIPMENT:

Instructions

You will need:

Water Phase:

  • 16.8 oz. Distilled Water (52.5%)
  • 4 oz. Lavender Essential Water (12.5%)

Oil Phase:

  • 2 oz. Sweet Almond Oil (6%)
  • 1.6 oz. Rosehip Seed Oil (5%)
  • 2.6 oz. Avocado Butter (8%)
  • 0.6 oz. Deodorized Cocoa Butter (2%)
  • 2.8 oz. Emulsifying Wax (9%)

Cool-Down Phase:

  • 0.4 oz. Wild Heather and Thyme Fragrance Oil (1%)
  • 0.4 oz. Carrot Extract (1%)
  • 0.4 oz. Chamomile Extract (1%)
  • 0.4 oz. Optiphen (1%)
  • 1/4 tsp. Queen's Purple Mica

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your mask. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible.

Follow these steps:

1

In a large heat-safe container, add 16.8 ounces of distilled water and lavender essential water. Heat in the microwave or over a double boiler until the water is about 170-180° F.

2

In a separate small heat-safe container, combine 2 ounces of sweet almond oil, 1.6 ounces of rosehip seed oil, 2.6 ounces of avocado butter, 0.6 ounces of cocoa butter, and 2.8 ounces of Emulsifying Wax. Heat in the microwave on 30-60 second bursts until everything is melted and it's about 180° F.

3

Check the temperature of both containers - they should be about 160° F. When they’re ready, tap your stick blender on the bottom of the bowl to release bubbles. Pour the oils and wax into the water and begin pulsing the stick blender for 60-90 seconds, making sure it's fully emulsified.

4

Continue stick blending until the temperature drops to about 130-140° F. Add 0.4 ounces of Wild Heather and Thyme Fragrance Oil, 0.4 ounces of Optiphen, 0.4 ounces of carrot extract, and 0.4 ounces of chamomile extract. Stick blend for another 60-90 seconds.

5

Add about 1/4 teaspoon of Queen's Purple Mica and stick blend for about 30 seconds until fully combined and there are no clumps. If the mica separates a little, just keep stick blending for several minutes until there are no large particles on top (a few small particles is fine).

6

Pour the cream into jars. Allow it to cool for about 1-2 hours with the lid off to prevent condensation. Secure the lid and allow the cream to fully cool and thicken. Enjoy!
