This swirly melt and pour soap project screams fall with a cozy scent, pumpkin powder, and a bit of sparkle.

Layering melt and pour soap requires a bit of patience. We recommend waiting until all the colors of soap are around 120 degrees F. Swirl a small amount of all three shades into the mold, then wait 30-60 seconds for the soap in the mold to harden before continuing to swirl. Watch this video for more tips on swirling melt and pour soap.

It's scented with Cardamom and Cedar Fragrance Oil, which is a sophisticated and cozy blend of cardamom, cinnamon, cedar, and cashmere. It does not discolor, so you don't need to worry about the colors changing.

Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
  • SFIC Buttermilk Melt and Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
  • SFIC Clear Melt And Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
  • Pumpkin Powder - 3 oz
  • Copper UltraSparkle Mica - 1 oz
  • Perfect Orange Color Block - 1 Block
  • Cardamom and Cedar Fragrance Oil - 1.75 oz
EQUIPMENT:
  • Tall 12 Silicone Loaf Mold

Instructions

You will need:

  • Tall 12" Silicone Loaf Mold
  • 16 oz. Buttermilk Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 32 oz. Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 0.6 oz. Cardamom and Cedar Fragrance Oil
  • Perfect Orange Color Block
  • 1 tsp. Pumpkin Powder
  • 1 tsp. UltraSparkle Copper Mica
  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol in a Spray Bottle

Follow these steps:

1

Chop 32 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base and 16 ounces of Buttermilk Melt and Pour Soap Base into small, uniform cubes. Place all of the white soap into one heat-safe container. Split the clear soap equally into 2 containers (it's okay to eyeball it).

2

Place all 3 containers into the microwave and melt using 30-60 second bursts. You can melt each individually or all at the same time if your microwave is big enough. Continue microwaving slowly in short bursts until each color is fully melted and the soap is around 140° F.

3

Add 0.2 ounces of Cardamom and Cedar Fragrance Oil to each container and stir in thoroughly. Disperse 1 teaspoon of pumpkin powder into 1 Tablespoon of isopropyl alcohol. Add the following colorants/additives to the two clear soap containers.

  • Clear Soap (Container A): All dispersed pumpkin powder + 1 small chunk Perfect Orange Color Block
  • Clear Soap (Container B): 1 tsp. UltraSparkle Copper Mica

Stir the colorants and additives in thorouhgly until there are no clumps. If the Color Block is not melting, place that container of soap back into the microwave and slowly heat using 15 second bursts.

4

Check the temperatures of the soap - each container should be about 120-130° F. Pour a thin layer of the copper soap into the mold, just enough to cover the bottom. Spritz with alcohol to help get rid of bubbles, and pour small amounts of the white and orange soap on top in random areas. Spritz with alcohol. Allow this layer to cool and harden for about 1 minute. It will develop a thin skin, which will prevent the colors from muddling together. Continue drizzling small amounts of each color into the mold, spraying with alcohol when needed to pop bubbles.

5

If the soap starts to cool during the pouring process and gets too thick, place it back in the microwave and heat using 5-10 second bursts until it's around 130° F. Continue layering and swirling each color together. Repeat this process until all the soap is used up.

6

Allow the soap to fully cool and harden for about 4 hours or up to overnight. Unmold, cut into bars, and enjoy!
