Layering melt and pour soap does take a little bit of patience. Make sure the layer below is cool and firm enough to support the one on top. We highly recommend having 99% isopropyl alcohol on hand for this project. Spraying it before pouring each layer helps them adhere to each other.

Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
  • SFIC Buttermilk Melt and Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
  • SFIC Clear Melt And Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
  • Candy Cane Fragrance Oil - 2 oz
  • Perfect Red Color Block - 1 Block
  • Fine Red EcoGlitter - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
  • Tall 12 Silicone Loaf Mold

Instructions

You will need:

  • Tall 12" Silicone Loaf Mold
  • 30 oz. Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 20 oz. Buttermilk Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • Perfect Red Color Block
  • Red EcoGlitter
  • 0.8 oz. Candy Cane Fragrance Oil
  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol

Follow these steps:

Chop 30 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into small uniform cubes. Place the soap into a heat-safe container, along with a small chunk of the Perfect Red Color Block.

Melt using 30-60 second bursts, stirring frequently. Be careful to not overheat. Once the soap is melted, add 0.5 ounces of Candy Cane Fragrance Oil and stir thoroughly.

Place the mold on a scale. Pour 10 ounces of the red soap into the mold and spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to get rid of bubbles. Set the mold aside and allow the soap to harden and cool for 5-10 minutes. Cover the container of melted red soap with plastic wrap.

Chop 20 ounces of Buttermilk Soap Base into small uniform cubes. Place into a heat safe-container and melt in the microwave using 30-60 second bursts. Stir frequently. Once the soap is melted, add 0.3 ounces of Candy Cane Fragrance Oil and stir thoroughly.

Check the red soap in the mold. It needs to be firm enough to support the layer of buttermilk soap. When the red layer is ready and the white soap is 125-135° F, spritz the red soap with isopropyl alcohol and pour 10 ounces of the buttermilk soap into the mold. Cover the container of melted buttermilk soap with plastic wrap.

Set the mold aside and allow the layer of buttermilk soap to cool and harden for about 10 minutes. Once it's firm enough to support a layer on top, reheat the red soap in the microwave using 15-30 second bursts. When it's around 125-135° F, spritz the soap in the mold with isopropyl alcohol and pour 10 ounces of red soap in.

Repeat steps six and seven twice more, layering the rest of the white soap and red soap into the mold. After pouring the final layer of red soap into the mold, spritz with isopropyl alcohol and sprinkle with plenty of Red EcoGlitter.

Allow the soap to fully cool and harden overnight. Release the soap from the mold and cut into bars. Wrap the bars in plastic wrap to help prevent glycerin dew.
