Floral Body Salve Project
During the cold winter months, you may need something more heavy-duty than standard lotion. That’s where this Floral Body Salve comes in - it leaves your skin feeling intensely moisturized and smooth.
The recipe is simple and made with natural ingredients. That includes olive oil, beeswax, and coconut oil infused with marigold petals. It's firm at room temperature, but softens to a spreadable texture when touched. The balm is also made with lavender essential oil, which is a classic and relaxing scent that almost everyone loves.
What You Need:
Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- Coconut Oil - 1 lb
- Marigold - Calendula, Dried - 3 oz
- Olive Oil - Pure - 1 lb
- Yellow Beeswax - 1 lb
- Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil - 1.75 oz
EQUIPMENT:
- Gold Candle Tins - 6 Tins
Instructions
You will need:
- 3 Candle Tins
- 12 oz. Coconut Oil (10 oz. Infused Coconut Oil)
- 0.5 oz. Marigold Petals
- 2 oz. Olive Oil
- 1 oz. Yellow Beeswax
- 0.1 oz. Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
Follow these steps:
1
In a large heat-safe container, add 12 ounces of coconut oil. Place the container in the microwave and heat until the oil is about 150° F. You only need 10 ounces of infused coconut oil for this recipe, but you will lose some after it’s strained. Add 0.5 ounces of marigold petals and allow them to infuse for about 2 hours or up to overnight. Note: Because coconut oil is solid at room temperature, it may need to be reheated in the microwave during this process. You can also use a slow cooker to infuse the oil.
2
Pour the oil through a strainer lined with a paper towel or cheesecloth to remove the marigold. You may need to strain it more than once to remove all the pieces. Weigh the remaining oil. If you have less than 10 ounces, add more uninfused coconut oil to make up the difference.
3
Add 1 ounce of beeswax and 2 ounces of olive oil to the coconut oil. Place the container back in the microwave and heat using 30-60 bursts until the beeswax is melted. Beeswax has a very high melting point, so be careful when removing the container from the microwave, as it will be very hot.
4
Add 0.1 ounces of lavender 40/42 essential oil and stir to fully incorporate. Pour the balm into the candle tins. Allow it fully cool and harden with the top off for around 4-6 hours.
To use, rub your fingers on the balm to warm it and then apply where needed.
