Natural Whipped Shea Butter Project
If you have extra dry or mature skin, sometimes lotion isn’t enough. That’s where this whipped butter comes in! It’s intensely moisturizing and gentle, and just happens to smell great too.
The recipe is made with raw shea butter, evening primrose oil, and calendula extract. The blend of floral essential oils pairs wonderfully with the natural scent of the shea butter. The butter is finished with a touch of arrowroot powder so it doesn’t feel greasy.

EQUIPMENT:
- 8 oz Lidded Glass Jar - 4 Jars
Instructions
You will need:
- 17.5 oz. Raw Shea Butter
- 4 oz. Evening Primrose Oil
- 2 oz. Calendula Extract
- 2 oz. Arrowroot Powder
- 3 mL Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
- 3 mL Egyptian Geranium Essential Oil
- 3 mL Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
- 4 8 oz. Lidded Glass Jars
*Note: This project was originally made with Dark Green 13 oz. Glass Jars, which have been discontinued. They have been substituted with 8 oz. Lidded Glass Jars.
Follow these steps:
1
Chop 17.5 ounces of raw shea butter into small pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl. Set a hand or stand mixer to low/medium and whip the butter for about 30-60 seconds to break up any large chunks and create a smoother texture.
2
Add 2 ounces of evening primrose oil and turn the mixer on low to slowly incorporate. Then, increase to medium/high and whip for about 30-60 seconds. Repeat with another 2 ounces of evening primrose oil and 2 ounces of calendula extract. Scrape the side of the bowl periodically to make sure everything is incorporated.
3
Add 3 mL of ylang ylang essential oil, 3 mL of Egyptian geranium essential oil, and 3 mL of lavender 40/42 essential oil. Whip the essential oils in until smooth.
4
Add 1 ounce of arrowroot powder. Use a spatula or large spoon to fold the powder in gently. Once incorporated, scrape down the sides of the bowl and continue to whip the mixture for about 60 more seconds. Add another 1 ounce of arrowroot powder, fold in, then whip with stand or hand mixer. The butter should be smooth and fluffy.
5
Spoon equally into jars. Store in a dry and cool place. Enjoy!
