Inspired by the Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil, this luxurious lotion is a treat to use.

Jasmine blossoms are known for their strong and sweet aroma. Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil is an alluring spin on the classic scent, with additional notes of cassis, bergamot, and smoky musk. Because of its perfume-like qualities, it’s a great choice for leave-on products such as body oil. It’s also the perfect fit for this creamy body lotion recipe.

Inspired by the Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil, this lotion recipe is made with rosehip seed oil. Rosehip seed oil is rich in vitamins A and C and is great for extremely dry skin. It’s known as a dry oil, which means it absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy feel.

Lavender essential water is used as a portion of the liquid in this recipe. Essential waters are created by infusing purified water with essential oil. Emulsifying wax brings the water and oil together. Stearic acid is a co-emulsifier, and also acts as a thickening agent.

Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
  • Rosehip Seed Oil - 4 oz
  • Lavender Essential Water - 4 oz
  • Emulsifying Wax - 1 lb
  • Stearic Acid - 1 oz
  • Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil - 1.75 oz
  • Lavender Mica - 1 oz
  • Optiphen - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
  • 4 oz Clear Bottle with Black Disc Cap - 10
  • Droppers With Suction Bulb - 1 dropper

Instructions

You will need:

  • Four 4 oz. Bottles with Black Cap
  • 8 oz. Distilled Water (50%)
  • 1 oz. Emulsifying Wax (6%)
  • 2.4 oz. Rosehip Seed Oil (15%)
  • 0.6 oz. Stearic Acid (4%)
  • 0.2 oz. Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil
  • 1/8 tsp Lavender Mica
  • 0.2 oz. Optiphen (1%)
  • 4 oz. Lavender Essential Water (25%)

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your lotion. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible.

Follow these steps:

1

In a heat-safe container, add 8 ounces of distilled water and 4 ounces of lavender essential water. Heat in the microwave until it's 160-180° F.

2

In a separate heat-safe container, combine 2.4 ounces of rosehip seed oil, 1 ounce of Emulsifying Wax, and 0.6 ounces of stearic acid. Heat the container in the microwave using 30-60 second bursts until the waxes have fully melted and the mixture is about 160-180° F.

3

Check the temperatures of both containers - they should be about 160° F. If not, pop them back in the microwave until they're the correct temperature.

Burp your stick blender by tapping it on the bottom of the container to release bubbles. Then, pour the oils and wax into water and begin pulsing the stick blender. Blend the mixture for 60-90 seconds to make sure it's fully emulsified.

4

Continue stick blending until the temperature drops to about 130-140° F. Add 1/8 tsp of Lavender Mica. Stick blend the color until completely combined. Add 0.2 ounces of Sultry Black Jasmine Fragrance Oil and stick blend to fully combine.

5

Once the lotion is below 120° F, add 0.2 ounces of Optiphen. Stick blend for an additional 60-90 seconds until the mixture is fully incorporated.

6

Carefully pour the lotion into bottles. Let the bottles sit overnight without a cap to prevent condensation. Once completely cooled, place the caps on the bottles and enjoy!
