Hemp and Aloe Facial Soap Project
This recipe combines hemp seed oil with other natural goodies like aloe vera and spinach powder. It’s gentle enough for every skin type, and it feels refreshing on the face. We left this bar unscented - if you'd like, you can add an essential oil like lavender or tea tree. We recommend a light usage rate for facial products.
If you've never used hemp seed oil in your soap before, you're in for a treat. It's an amazing source of fatty acids and is thought to be anti-inflammatory. Hemp seed oil does not contain any THC or CBD. If you'd like to incorporate CBD into this recipe, you certainly can! Make sure the one you're using is oil-based and free of unnecessary additives. What You Need:
Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- Sodium Lactate - 4 oz
- Spinach Powder - 3 oz
- Kaolin Clay - 1 oz
- Aloe Vera Concentrate - 1 oz
- Natural Hemp Seed Oil - 1 lb
- Coconut Oil - 1 lb
- Palm Oil - 1 lb
- Olive Oil - Pure - 1 lb
- Jojoba Oil, Golden - 4 oz
EQUIPMENT:
- 2 lb Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom - 1 Mold
Instructions
You will need:
- 2 lb. Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom
- 3.3 oz. Hemp Seed Oil (15%)
- 7.7 oz. Olive Oil (35%)
- 4.4 oz. Palm Oil (20%)
- 4.4 oz. Coconut Oil (20%)
- 2.2 oz. Jojoba Oil (10%)
- 2.9 oz. Lye
- 5.5 oz. Distilled Water (1 oz. subtracted to account for aloe concentrate)
- 1 Tbsp. Kaolin Clay
- 2 tsp. Spinach Powder
- 1 oz. Aloe Concentrate
Follow these steps:
1
Slowly and carefully add 2.9 ounces of lye to 5.5 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Stir in 1.5 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the soap harden and unmold more quickly.
2
Melt and measure 3.3 ounces of hemp seed oil, 7.7 ounces of olive oil, 4.4 ounces of palm oil, 4.4 ounces of coconut oil, and 2.2 ounces of jojoba oil in a large heat-safe container (remember to fully melt the palm oil before measuring).
3
Add 1 tablespoon of kaolin clay and 2 teaspoons of spinach powder to the melted oils. Stick blend until there are no longer any large clumps.
4
Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-120° F, add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin or medium trace.
5
Add 1 ounce of aloe concentrate to the soap and stick blend until fully combined.
6
Pour the soap into the 2 lb. Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom. Allow it to thicken in the mold for several minutes, then use a small spoon to create soft texture on top.
7
Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. If you live in a very cool area, cover and insulate the soap. You can also place it on a heating pad for about 1 hour.
8
Allow the soap to stay in the mold for about 2-3 days. Unmold and cut into bars. Allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
