Turmeric Cleansing Balm Project
Avocado oil is infused with turmeric powder, giving it a vibrant yellow hue. Turmeric contains curcumin, an antioxidant thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. Don't worry, it doesn't stain your skin! The emulsifying wax and polysorbate 80 ensures the balm washes away. But, it can stain washcloths.
What You Need:
Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- Turmeric Powder - 3 oz
- Natural Citrus and Sage Fragrance Oil - Trial Size
- Avocado Oil - 1 lb
- Emulsifying Wax - 1 lb
- Polysorbate 80 - 1 oz
- Optiphen - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
- 2 oz Frosted Glass Jar with White Cap - 10
Instructions
You will need:
- 5.2 oz. Avocado Oil
- 0.2 oz. Turmeric Powder
- 1.8 oz. Emulsifying Wax
- 0.6 oz. Polysorbate 80
- 0.4 oz. Carrot Extract
- 3 mL Natural Citrus and Sage Fragrance Oil
- 3 mL Optiphen
Follow these steps:
1
In a small heat-safe container, add 5.2 ounces of avocado oil. Place 0.2 ounces of turmeric powder into a sealable tea bag and use an iron to seal shut. Heat the oil in the microwave using 30-60 second bursts until it's about 140 degrees F. Place the turmeric into the hot oil and allow to "steep" for about 2-3 hours. Remove the tea bag from the oil and discard. NOTE: You can also add the turmeric powder directly to the oil, and filter out the turmeric using a coffe filter if you prefer.
2
To the turmeric oil, add 1.8 ounces of emulsifying wax. Melt in the microwave using 30 second bursts. Once the wax has melted, add 0.6 ounces of polysorbate 80 and 0.4 ounces of carrot extract. Stir in. Stir in 3 mL of Natural Citrus and Sage Fragrance Oil. Ensure the temperature is 160 degrees F or below, and stir in 3 mL of Optiphen.
3
Pour mixture into glass jars. We recommend placing the jars into the freezer to quickly harden. Allow to cool and harden completely. Store in a dry and cool place. Enjoy!
