Apple Bourbon Soap Project
Merlot Sparkle Mica and Evergreen Mica give each layer gorgeous fall-inspired shades. Between each layer is a small line of Gold Sparkle Mica. The mica is also sprinkled on top for a sophisticated finishing touch. The bars are scented with Apple Bourbon Fragrance Oil, which is a mouthwatering blend of apple, caramel, and bourbon.
What You Need:
10 inch Silicone Loaf Mold
Gentle Quick Mix - 33 oz
Sodium Hydroxide Lye
Sodium Lactate - 4 oz
Apple Bourbon Fragrance Oil - 1.75 oz
Merlot Sparkle Mica - 1 oz
Evergreen Mica - 1 oz
Green Chrome Oxide Pigment - 1 oz
Gold Sparkle Mica - 1 oz

Instructions
You will need:
- 10″ Silicone Loaf Mold
- 33 oz. Gentle Quick Mix
- 4.7 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- 10.5 oz. Distilled Water
- 2 tsp. Sodium Lactate (optional)
- 1.5 oz. Apple Bourbon Fragrance Oil
- Merlot Sparkle Mica
- Evergreen Mica
- Green Chrome Oxide Pigment
- Gold Sparkle Mica
COLORANT PREP: In separate containers, mix 1 teaspoon of Green Chrome Oxide Pigment, 1 teaspoon of Merlot Sparkle Mica, and 1 teaspoon of Evergreen Mica into 1 tablespoon each of lightweight liquid oil. Use a mini mixer to get rid of any clumps.
Optional: To ensure the titanium dioxide blends smoothly into the soap, we recommend micronizing it before dispersing it in oil. Use a coffee grinder to break up any clumps of color and prevent streaks of white from showing in the final soap. We like to use a coffee grinder that has a removable stainless steel mixing area for easy cleaning.
FRAGRANCE PREP: Measure 1.5 ounces of Apple Bourbon Fragrance Oil into a glass container. Set aside.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.
Follow these steps:

Slowly and carefully add 4.7 ounces of lye to 10.5 ounces of water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Stir in 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the soap harden and unmold more quickly.

Fully melt the entire bag of Gentle Quick Mix until it’s completely clear. Shake the bag to mix up all the oils. Measure 33 ounces into a large heat-safe container. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-120° F (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a thin trace.

Split the soap into two equal containers. To one, add all of the dispersed Merlot Sparkle Mica. To the other, add 2 teaspoons dispersed Evergreen Mica and 1/2 teaspoon dispersed Green Chrome Oxide Pigmnet. Use a whisk to mix thoroughly.

Add half of the fragrance oil to the green soap, and the other half to the red soap - it's okay to eyeball it. Use a whisk to fully mix in the fragrance oil.

Check the consistency of the soap. You want a light to medium trace. If the soap is still extremely thin, stick blend each color using short bursts to thicken. It should be the texture of a thin pudding.

Pour half of the red soap into the mold, and use a spoon to spread it evenly into the mold. Then, sprinkle a thin layer of Gold Sparkle Mica onto the soap. It can be helpful to use a small strainer to evenly apply the mica. Once it's lightly covered, carefully pour half of the green soap on top of the red. Spread with a spoon to evenly cover. Sprinkle a light layer of Gold Sparkle Mica on top.

Pour or spoon the remaining red soap into the mold, cover with mica, then pour or spoon the remaining green soap. Use a small spoon to create texture on top until you're happy with the look. Sprinkle a light layer of Gold Sparkle Mica on top.

We recommend insulating this batch to help it harden. To do this, we placed it on a heating pad on low for 1 hour. Allow the soap to sit in the mold for about 2-3 days. Unmold and cut into bars - we recommend cutting from the side to prevent drag marks from the mica. Allow them to cure for 4-6 weeks and enjoy
