Gingerbread Cake Soap Project
This project involves two steps. First, the base soap is created in the 6 Cavity Silicone Circle Mold. This batch is scented with Gingerbread Cookie Fragrance Oil, which features notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg. A touch of Brown Oxide Pigment is added to even out the fragrance discoloration.
After 1-2 days, the brown soap is removed from the molds and another batch of cold process is poured on top to represent the frosting. This batch is left unscented. A sprinkle of coconut shell powder looks just like cinnamon!

- Mango Butter - 1 lb
- Castor Oil - 1 lb

- Sodium Lactate - 4 oz
- Brown Oxide Pigment - 1 oz
- Titanium Dioxide Pigment - 1 oz

- 10.5 oz. Olive Oil Pomace (35%)
- 9 oz. Coconut Oil (30%)
- 6.9 oz. Avocado Oil (23%)
- 1.5 oz. Cocoa Butter (5%)
- 1.5 oz. Mango Butter (5%)
- 0.6 oz. Castor Oil (2%)
- 4.2 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- 9.3 oz. Distilled Water (10% water discount)
- Sodium Lactate (optional)
- 2 oz. Gingerbread Cookie Fragrance Oil
- Brown Oxide Pigment
- Frosting:
- 3.5 oz. Olive Oil Pomace (35%)
- 3 oz. Coconut Oil (30%)
- 2.3 oz. Avocado Oil (23%)
- 0.5 oz. Cocoa Butter (5%)
- 0.5 oz. Mango Butter (5%)
- 0.2 oz. Castor Oil (2%)
- 1.4 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- 3.1 oz. Distilled Water
- Sodium Lactate (optional)

COLORANT PREP: Disperse 1 teaspoon of Brown Oxide Pigment into 1 tablespoon of sunflower or sweet almond oil (or any other liquid oil). Use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps.
FRAGRANCE OIL PREP: In a glass container, measure 2 ounces of Gingerbread Cookie Fragrance Oil. Set aside.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.
Follow these steps:
MAKE THE BASE

Slowly and carefully add 4.2 ounces of sodium hydroxide lye to 9.3 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Add 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the soap harden more quickly.

Measure and melt 9 ounces coconut oil, 0.6 ounces of castor oil, 6.9 ounces of avocado oil, 1.5 ounces of cocoa butter, 1.5 ounces of mango butter, and 10.5 ounces of olive oil pomace in a large heat-safe container. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 90-100° F or (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until you reach a thin trace.

Add 2 ounces of Gingerbread Cookie Fragrance Oil and 1 teaspoon of dispersed Brown Oxide Pigment. Use your stick blender to stir in the fragrance and color. Pulse with stick blender until the soap reaches a medium trace.

Carefully pour the soap into all twelve cavities of the Circle Silicone Molds and let harden for 1-2 days. Unmold the soap.
MAKE THE FROSTING
COLORANT PREP: Disperse 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide into 1 tablespoon of sunflower or sweet almond oil (or any other liquid oil). Use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps.
Optional: To ensure the titanium dioxide blends smoothly into the soap, we recommend micronizing it before dispersing it in oil. Use a coffee grinder to break up any clumps of color and prevent streaks of white from showing in the final soap. We like to use a coffee grinder that has a removable stainless steel mixing area for easy cleaning.

Measure and melt 3 ounces coconut oil, 0.2 ounces of castor oil, 2.3 ounces of avocado oil, 0.5 ounces of cocoa butter, 0.5 ounces of mango butter, and 3.5 ounces of olive oil pomace in a large heat-safe container. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 90-100° F or (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until you reach a very thin trace.

Add all of the dispersed titanium dioxide and mix until completely combined. Stick blend until you have a thin to medium trace.

Depending on the texture of your soap, drizzle or spoon the frosting on top of each brown soap. The look of your "frosting" is a personal preference - have fun!

Once your happy with the look of each soap, sprinkle coconut shell powder on top of each. Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol and allow to harden for 2 days.

Allow the bars to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
