Twilight Sky Soap Project
This dark, moody soap is perfect for fall and winter!
The key to this project is time and patience. The Mini Moon Silicone Column Mold is used to make the moon, the hills and sky are created by pouring melt and pour in layers at a slight incline. You’ll want to wait until each layer has formed a film on top before pouring the next layer.
When pouring the sky soap around the moon embed, check the temperature to make sure it's no warmer than 130° F. If the soap is too hot, it will melt the embed. Keep a spray bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol nearby! You'll use it frequently to get rid of bubbles and help the layers stick to one another.
What You Need:

- SFIC Clear Melt And Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
- SFIC White Melt And Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
- Cobalt Blue Mica - 1 oz
- Marigold Yellow Mica - 1 oz
- Amberwood Twilight Fragrance Oil - 2 oz
- Black Oxide Pigment - 1 oz
- Silver EcoGlitter - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
- 4 inch Silicone Loaf Mold
- 99% Isopropyl Alcohol - 1 bottle (16 oz by volume)
- Mini Moon Silicone Column Mold
Instructions
You will need:
- 4" Silicone Mold
- Mini Moon Silicone Column Mold
- 6.5 oz. Clear Melt and Pour Soap
- 16 oz. White Melt and Pour Soap
- 0.5 oz. Amberwood Twilight
- Cobalt Blue Mica
- Black Oxide Pigment
- Marigold Yellow Mica
- Silver EcoGlitter
- 99% Isopropyl Alcohol
Follow these steps:
1
Begin by chopping and melting 3.75 ounces of white melt and pour soap base. Add ⅛ teaspoon of Marigold Yellow Mica and stir until the mica is fully dispersed. Pour into the Mini Moon Embed. Set aside upright to fully harden..
2
Chop and melt 6.5 ounces of clear melt and pour soap base, add a little less than half of your fragrance oil, then separate into two small containers. Add ⅛ teaspoon of Black Oxide Pigment to container #1 and stir until fully mixed in. Add ⅛ Cobalt Blue Mica to container #2 and stir until fully mixed in. Cover your second container with plastic wrap and set aside.
3
Grab your loaf mold and slightly elevate the left side of your mold by tucking a towel underneath. Pour your black bottom layer (container #1) into the mold and spritz isopropyl alcohol to get rid of any bubbles. This will also help your layers stick together. Let this bottom layer harden for 10 minutes until it can suspend another layer on top.
4
Once your bottom layer has hardened slightly, elevate the opposite side of your mold at the same incline. Pour your blue layer and spritz with alcohol. Let this harden until it can suspend another layer on top.
5
While your bottom layers are hardening, chop and melt 12 ounces of white melt and pour soap base for your sky. Add ½ teaspoon of Cobalt Blue Mica and stir until fully dispersed. Once your soap has cooled to 125 degrees, add a teaspoon of Silver EcoGlitter.
6
Remove the towel from under your mold so that it sits flat on the counter. Pour a small amount of lighter blue into your mold, spritz with alcohol, and let it harden slightly until it can suspend your embed. Cover the rest of your lighter blue soap with plastic wrap to help retain heat.
7
Unmold your moon embed and cut so it fits inside of your loaf mold. Place your moon embed into the mold on the left hand side. Fill the rest of the mold with the light blue, making sure it is no hotter than 120 degrees to avoid melting the embed.
8
Spritz with alcohol to get rid of any bubbles. Allow the soap to cool for at least 3-4 hours, up to overnight. Unmold and cut into bars, then enjoy!
