Maker of the Month: Fizzy Soaps
Isabella with Fizzy Soaps has been selling handmade products since middle school. In 2018, she started making soap and fell in love. She shared the process on TikTok and her videos took off - one has 11.5 million views and counting! Isabella's followers love her adorable boba soaps as much as they love watching her make them. Get to know her below!
How long have
you been making soap, and how did you get started? How long have you been selling
your products?
I’ve been making soap since
late 2018, I started making soap because I wanted to find a new handmade passion
after I ended my slime business that I ran throughout middle school. I love bath
products and when I found soap making, I knew this is what I wanted to do because of
how creative I could be with it. I started selling my products since the beginning
of my soap journey. I started with melt and pour soap and sugar scrubs, then I went
into cold processed soaps.
What
do you love most about making bath and body products?
I love how creative and unique you can be when making products. Everything
from special ingredients such as aloe vera, the endless amount of colors, to
designs, and fragrance opportunities are all reasons why I continue to make
soap.
What
inspires you to create?
I’m truly inspired
by everyone who watches my journey online. They are so supportive of me even when
others aren’t. They tell me it’s ok even when things
don’t turn out how I want, and keep me feeling up by letting me know that
I inspire them with my business. Additionally, They give me new ideas and give me
feedback on what to create.
What
advice would you give to someone who wanted to get started?
The advice I tell everyone is to be unique. I truly believe if you are
true to your own ideas, others will see your passion and creativity and support you.
Being unique is difficult in a world where it seems like everything has already been
done, but trying to make your own mark or path on the soap community means doing
something no one else has done.
Who’s
another maker you admire? What do you love about their work?
I admire many soap makers but one that I admire the most is Aubrey Sells
from Skin Foodie.
Her products have so many great ingredients that she showcases very well. I am also
inspired by her success selling in Whole Foods, her beautiful Etsy shop, photography
style, being an amazing woman entrepreneur and mom. Her success is something I hope
to achieve one day.
Any advice
for makers who want to give TikTok a try?
I love
TikTok and think that it is a great place to show a different side of your
businesses. I recommend making high-quality videos about your process that show how
you made your product to highlight your ingredients. Then talk about how you made
the product, what inspired your businesses, your experiences and anything you think
people can be interested in and connect with. It’s a great way to get your
audience to connect with you and gain interest in your
business.
Have you
experienced a fail? How did you work through it, and what did you
learn?
One time I made 4 loaves of my cookie dough
milkshake soap only to realize I had forgotten to add some of the oil to the recipe.
I had so many things to finish with the restock that day, and was super upset when I
had realized I had made that mistake. I was ready to call it a day and just finish
everything tomorrow but I had to keep going for my amazing fans and customers. I
ended up scraping out the soap from the molds, dying it black and making it into
soap dough. From this I learned that I need a helper when I make big batches to keep
me from forgetting things. Since then I have recruited my sister and she is way
better at soap making then I
thought.
What plans do you have
for your business/hobby moving forward?
I have big
plans for my businesses. This year I aim to restock at least 500 bars every week.
But for the long term, my ultimate goal is to create a chain of Fizzy Soaps stores
across the globe. I want to create different lines of soap and really reinvent how
soap is seen. I want people to see how soap isn’t just something you buy
because you have to. But something that is exciting to see, use, and keep your skin
clean and healthy.
Isabella's top Bramble Berry picks
- Titanium dioxide - I use it on every soap and cannot go without it. It’s such a staple color, I need to order some more now.
- Sweet almond oil - This luxurious oil is amazing for a lightweight moisture.
- SFIC Clear Melt And Pour Soap Base - I always have this on hand because you never know when an embed mold will fit perfectly with your project.
- 36 Bar Unfinished Birchwood Mold - I love this mold because it provides a different style of soap, and my fans love watching videos of me making and unmolding the soap from this.
What’s
your favorite Bramble Berry project?
The Cranberry Cocktail Soap
Project, I haven’t tried this but I loved watching the video of
Anne-Marie making it and want to try the techniques used to make it. I also love how
festive and chic it looks. My first Bramble Berry soap project I ever tried was the
Alpine Swirl Cold Process
Soap. I copied this exactly and I loved how the swirl, fragrance, and
color came out.
